From life at VŠE, or in other words, the summer semester has started!

More than a month of the summer semester 2023/2024 passed, and we would like to remind you of what happened at the Prague University of Economics and Business.

The second half of the academic year kicked off with a lecture from the Investors Club entitled “US Debt: Is a Disaster Approaching?” This time, the main guest was Lukáš Kovanda from Trinity Bank, who was a member of the National Economic Council of the government from 2020 to 2022. In the following two weeks, the Investors Club organized two more lectures. The first was held in collaboration with Andrej Kiska from Credo Ventures and focused on the topic – How to Find a Unicorn Business Idea and Invest in It? In their last lecture, the Investors Club focused on investing in fast-growing companies, with Radovan Nesrsta from Orbit Capital as the main guest. For more information on planned events, visit Facebook (Klub investorů) and the website.

Another student organization that has been organizing events for those interested in traveling and discovering new places since the beginning of the semester is the VŠE Travelers Club. The summer semester kicked off with a panel discussion called “Erasmus through the Eyes of the VŠE Travelers Club vol. 4”. During this panel discussion, participants had a great opportunity to learn useful information about exchange stays abroad and be inspired by the experiences of students who participated in Erasmus. In addition to this event, the VŠE Travelers Club also organized an interactive lecture on the topic: “Iceland – the Island of Waterfalls, Volcanoes, and Elves”. Students could learn, for example, why Icelanders believe in elves and what it’s like to live in a country without an army. For more information, visit their Facebook page (Klub cestovatelů VŠE).

The Prague Banking Club also didn’t lag behind, organizing a lecture on the complexity of managing banks on a global scale. The main guest was Zdeněk Turek, who serves as the Chief Risk Officer of one of the world’s largest banks in New York. During this event, participants could also learn a lot of useful information about career development, challenges, and opportunities in the financial sector. More information can be found on Facebook (Prague Banking Club).

In addition to the aforementioned events, the Financial and Banking Club FinBank also held a panel discussion. The debate focused on a deeper understanding of payment systems and their development within the European Union. The main guests were a Czech Member of the European Parliament and former student of the Prague University of Economics and Business Ing. Ondřej Kovařík and payment services expert Ing. Tomáš Hládek. Last but not least, the Junior Diplomat Initiative also organized two events. The first was a debate entitled “In the Shadow of Conflict: Two Years of War in Ukraine” with Ondřej Wágner, a member of the European Union delegation in Ukraine, as the main guest. The second event was a discussion on the topic: “Beyond the Ice: Debating the Arctic’s Frozen Future” with H. E. Emily McLaughlin, the Canadian Ambassador to the Czech Republic, and H. E. Søren Kelstrup, the Danish Ambassador to the Czech Republic, among the main guests. For more information, visit their Facebook (Junior Diplomat Initiative) and Instagram (juniordiplomatinitiative).

Many student events were also organized by the 4FIS student club. One of these events was the entertaining Pubquiz, held at the VŠE Academic Club. The Pubquiz by the 4FIS club takes place regularly at the Prague University of Economics and Business. If you are interested in this or more 4FIS events, follow them on Instagram (4fisclub).

In collaboration with a large number of student clubs at VŠE, the last two events that are certainly worth mentioning, were created. The first was the long-awaited AI Conference 2024, which was created by the collaboration of 5 student clubs (4FIS, Accounting Friends Club, Young Managers Club, Investors Club, and Prague Banking Club). It was three days full of inspiration, new knowledge, and opportunities in the field of AI and technology. The second event was the Clothing and Book Swap of VŠE, organized in collaboration with organizations such as Studujeme FPH, CEMS Club Prague, Young Managers Club, OIKOS, and Dressibly.
